Aro Black Panelled Culatta Belt
Constructed from individually selected panels of Italian horse culatta, this belt brings together contrasting surfaces from across the hide. Smooth, shell-like sections transition into areas of soft suede, allowing the natural variation of the leather to become part of the construction itself.
Each panel is joined by hand using a ladder stitch, creating subtle breaks along the length of the belt while maintaining a continuous silhouette. Rather than seeking uniformity, the placement of each section is deliberately composed to highlight shifts in texture, surface, and finish.
The reverse is given the same consideration as the exterior, with cleanly finished edges, reinforced construction, and hand-stitched detailing throughout.
Intentionally cut long, the extended strap becomes part of the silhouette when worn. A solid brass square buckle completes the piece.
Natural Variations
Horse culatta varies considerably across a single hide, moving between smooth, dense areas and softer, more fibrous surfaces. Each belt is assembled according to the character of the leather available, making the arrangement of panels, grain, texture, and tonal variation unique to every piece.

Derived from the hind section of the hide, culatta (butt) is a specialized cut that includes the area just above the prized shell cordovan, along with parts of the belly and hind shanks. This unique combination creates a leather with a dense structure, tight grain, and a medium-to-firm temper, offering exceptional durability and versatility.
What sets culatta apart is its naturally irregular texture, which varies across the hide. On the reverse (flesh) side, subtle traces of shell cordovan bleed into the fibers, creating a chaotic yet captivating appearance. These grain irregularities give each piece made from culatta its own story, ensuring that no two items are ever the same. The natural beauty of this leather shines through its imperfections, showcasing a raw elegance that resonates deeply with aficionados of avant-garde fashion and timeless craftsmanship.

ABOUT HARDWARE
This item features solid brass hardware, known for its strength and resistance to corrosion. Items featuring hardware with a black finish will naturally wear over time, gradually revealing the rich brass beneath. This creates a unique patina that reflects its journey with you. This transformation is an intentional characteristic of the material, adding depth and individuality to each piece.
NATURAL VARIATION
Natural variation is an inherent part of the materials we work with. Grain, texture, color, markings, and surface character will vary from piece to piece, making each object subtly unique.
These variations are not considered imperfections or defects, but part of the individual character of the material.

Each piece is made by hand in our San Francisco studio. Please allow approximately 5–7 business days for production before your order ships.
